Novohrad-Volynsky City Council demands that UOC priests leave all churches
On April 7, at a meeting of the Novograd-Volynsky City Council, the deputies decided to ban the activities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and demanded that the priests vacate the churches within 24 hours. The full text of the appeal of deputies is published on the official website of the City Council.
“None of the clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) in the Novohrad-Volynsky city territorial community has decided to renounce the Moscow Patriarchate during the 43 days of the Russian invasion of our country. If you want to continue serving the Moscow Patriarchate, we demand that in 24 hours the churches belonging to the Ukrainian people be vacated,” the message says.
According to the official website of the Zhytomyr diocese, 29 priests serve on the territory of the Novohrad-Volynsky deanery.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that two bills banning the UOC were registered at the Verkhovna Rada.
After that, Adviser to the Head of the Office of the President Mikhail Podoliak urged not to raise this topic and not to speculate on issues of faith.
Recall that back in 2019, ex-president of Ukraine Poroshenko claimed that the Tomos speaks of the independence of the OCU, and called the UOC subordinate to Moscow and doubted its canonicity. The UOJ figured out if it refelcts the reality.
