On May 22, 2026, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry celebrated the Divine Liturgy at St. Nicholas's Cathedral of the Holy Intercession Women's Monastery in Kyiv on the feast day of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, reports the UOC Information and Education Department.
The Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was concelebrated by Metropolitan Arseniy of Sviatohirsk, Archbishop Sylvester of Bilohorodka, Archbishop Spyridon of Vyshneve, Archbishop Mark of Borodianka, the clergy of the monastery and guests in holy orders. The abbess of the monastery, Hegumeness Kalisfenia, prayed at the service with the sisters. The chanting was performed by the choir of the nuns of the Holy Intercession Monastery. After the reading of the Holy Gospel, His Beatitude addressed the flock with a sermon.
During the Liturgy, prayers were offered for peace in the Ukrainian land, deliverance from the enemy, those who have lost their homes, the strengthening of the soldiers, the release of captives, and the healing of the sick. The Primate asked God for mercy upon the Ukrainian people, wisdom for the authorities, and blessings upon all who help those in need.
The service concluded with a procession around the cathedral and a prayer to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. After the service, His Beatitude the Archbishop congratulated the nuns and parishioners of the monastery on the feast day.
As the UOJ reported, on the Feast of the Lord's Ascension, the Primate of the UOC celebrated the festive service at the capital's church in Demiivka. The Holy Intercession Women's Monastery in Kyiv is one of the main Orthodox monasteries of the Ukrainian capital, where festive episcopal services are regularly celebrated.
