At Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, unknown individuals tore down an LGBT flag that the university administration had displayed on one of its buildings to mark the so-called “Pride Month.” The incident was reported by the university’s Gender Equality Committee on Facebook.

Representatives of the committee described the act as “homotransphobic vandalism.” In an official statement, they stressed that the destruction of the symbol would not undermine the values of dignity and equality that they promote.

Earlier, the university’s decision to raise the flag sparked a wave of criticism and sharp reactions on social media. According to Professor Dimitra Kogidou, the public response exposed the scale of resistance that still exists within parts of society toward such initiatives.

The university administration stated that the incident only reinforces the need to continue advancing its inclusivity and anti-discrimination agenda.

As the UOJ reported, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Kyiv raised an LGBT flag at its premises.
