In USA, Catholic bishop banned prayer outside church during pride march

On June 30, 2026, Roman Catholic Bishop Robert Casey banned a group of Catholics from praying outside St. Peter's Cathedral in Cincinnati, Ohio, as an LGBT parade passed by the church, reports LifeSiteNews.

Catholics from the Christ The King group had gathered outside the cathedral during the Pride march for several years in a row. They prayed at the church and described it as reparatory prayer. According to them, the event had previously taken place peacefully and without conflict with LGBT parade participants.

This year, the group was banned from praying on the cathedral steps. Christ The King stated that Roman Catholic Bishop Robert Casey did not want the Archdiocese to appear to be participating in a public protest against the Pride march.

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati explained the ban by saying that prayer on the cathedral steps could have created the impression of official support for the event on the part of church leadership. It was emphasized that the group acts independently and is not under the Archdiocese's control.

The Catholics perceived this decision as an attempt to maintain neutrality toward the LGBT parade. They stated that they had gathered not for a political rally but for public prayer outside the church during an event that contradicts Catholic teaching.
