Patriarch Porfirije takes part in filming documentary on St. Sava of Serbia

Patriarch Porfirije has filmed the opening and closing scenes of a documentary film and television series about St. Sava, the first Archbishop and Enlightener of Serbia, in the crypt of the Church of St. Sava in Belgrade. The scenes were recorded against the backdrop of the monumental fresco of Serbian saints, the Serbian Orthodox Church's website reports.

According to the producers, the Patriarch's remarks recorded during filming express his profound devotion to the founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church and one of the most significant figures in Serbian history. The documentary and television series are being produced with the blessing of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church in cooperation with the brotherhood of Hilandar Monastery. The project is produced by Optimistic Film.

The production also includes exclusive interviews with the abbots and monks of Hilandar, Vatopedi, Stary Russik, and the Pateritsa Kellion, as well as footage of sacred treasures from the Hilandar treasury that have never before been shown to the public.

Filming has taken place at numerous locations in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Dalmatia, Mount Athos, Jerusalem, Turkey, Sinai, Bulgaria, and the United States, using drones and multi-camera production.

The film is directed and produced by Dr. Željko Mirković, whose documentaries have received more than 130 international awards. Two of his films, Tesla's People and The Other Encounter, were included on the Academy Awards qualification list.

As the UOJ previously reported, the Hilandar Monastery on Mount Athos recently commemorated its founder, St. Sava of Serbia.
