UOC launches “Backpack of Mercy” campaign for displaced children

On July 27, 2026, the UOC Synodal Department called on the faithful to join its annual charity campaign, “Backpack of Mercy,” aimed at helping more than 300 children from internally displaced families prepare for school, according to the department’s official Telegram channel.
The organizers noted that many parents are currently struggling to provide everything their children need for school. The situation is especially difficult for families who were forced to leave their homes because of the war, lost their jobs, and had to start over in a new place.
Each child is expected to receive a high-quality backpack filled with essential school supplies, including notebooks, sketchbooks, drawing materials, and other stationery. The cost of one complete set is up to UAH 3,000.
The Synodal Department stressed that hundreds of children need support so they can begin the new school year with the necessary supplies and feel the care of those around them.
The UOC called on everyone willing to help to contribute to the fundraiser and assist displaced children in receiving new backpacks and school supplies before the start of the school year.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that a UOC parish in Kropyvnytskyi had prepared 18,000 free meals in 2026.
