On August 24, 2026, Volodymyr and Olena Zelenskyy took part in an interfaith prayer service at Saint Sophia of Kyiv for Ukraine's Independence Day. This is evidenced by the broadcast of the event on Suspilne Novyny.
Representatives of various religious denominations participated in the joint prayer: the head of the OCU Epifaniy Dumenko together with Yevstratiy Zorya, the head of the UGCC Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Roman Catholic bishop Vitaliy Kryvytskyi, leaders of Ukrainian Protestant denominations, the Armenian Church, as well as Muslims and Jews. The organizers emphasized that those gathered "address God in different ways," yet pray together for peace, unity, and the protection of the country. Prayers were also offered for military personnel and those on the home front.
The head of the SSetnpfc Viktor Yelensky was present at the events.
After the interfaith prayer, the celebrations continued at Sophia Square with speeches by politicians and the presentation of state awards. In particular, Roman Catholic bishop Vitaliy Kryvytskyi received an award, and Zelenskyy thanked him for his "prayer, help, and support."
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the president congratulated Ukrainians on Independence Day and stated that the chevrons of the AFU soldiers are charged with light.
