A new Orthodox TV series is being filmed about the life and spiritual struggles of St. Joseph the Hesychast, who spent many years in ascetic labor on Mount Athos, the Union of Orthodox Journalists of Georgia reports.

The project is being produced by the same team behind the well-known series From Farasa to Heaven, dedicated to the life of St. Paisios of Mount Athos.

The role of St. Joseph the Hesychast will be played by the actor who previously portrayed St. Nektarios of Aegina in the series Man of God. The new production will tell the story of the Athonite elder’s life, ascetic struggles, and spiritual journey.

The series is expected to premiere in 2027. Its creators say they aim to portray the atmosphere of monastic life on the Holy Mountain and the spiritual legacy of Joseph the Hesychast as faithfully as possible. He became the spiritual father of an entire generation of modern Athonite elders.

St. Joseph the Hesychast (1897–1959) is regarded as one of the most revered saints of the 20th century. He formed an entire school of Athonite monasticism whose spiritual descendants included Elders Ephraim of Katounakia, Ephraim of Philotheou, and other renowned ascetics.

As the UOJ reported, Patriarch Porfirije took part in the filming of a movie about St. Sava of Serbia.
