UOC hierarchs perform funeral rite for Metropolitan Vissarion

On September 20, 2026, the 16th Sunday after Pentecost, a memorial Divine Liturgy and the funeral rite for the newly-departed Metropolitan Vissarion (Stretovych) were held at the Transfiguration Cathedral in the city of Ovruch, reports the UOC Information and Education Department.

By the blessing of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the memorial service was led by Metropolitan Nikodim of Zhytomyr and Novohrad-Volynsky.

The Zhytomyr hierarch was concelebrated by Metropolitan Augustine of Bila Tserkva and Bohuslav, Metropolitan Joasaph of Vasylkiv, Metropolitan Pimen of Rivne and Ostroh, and Bishop Arkady of Hostomel. Together with the hierarchs, the clergy of the Ovruch Eparchy and priests from other regions who had come to bid farewell to the reposed hierarch also prayed.

Monastics, spiritual children, and faithful of the Ovruch Eparchy came to see the newly-departed Metropolitan Vissarion on his final journey. After the funeral service, Metropolitan Vissarion was buried in the village of Meleny in the Korosten district, Zhytomyr region, beside the graves of his parents and departed relatives.

The UOJ previously reported that Metropolitan Vissarion (Stretovych) reposed in the Lord after a prolonged and exhausting illness, in the 73rd year of his life.
