In Zaporizhzhia, officers of the Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC) detained Archpriest Viacheslav Honcharenko, rector of St. Vladimir’s Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) in Vilniansk, the Pershyi Kozatskyi Telegram channel reports.
According to the priest’s relatives, recruitment officers stopped him on his way to the Zaporizhzhia Eparchy. Fr. Viacheslav managed to inform his family that he had been detained, after which they lost contact with him.
The priest is currently being held at the Zaporizhzhia TRC building, where he was taken for a military medical examination. Security personnel are refusing to allow lawyers who arrived to defend his rights to enter the building.
Fr. Viacheslav leads the parish of a church that was severely damaged by shelling in May 2026. The strike left numerous local residents injured and killed the priest’s sister.
As the UOJ previously reported, a UOC hierarch raised the issue of discriminatory mobilization practices in Ukraine at the United Nations.
