U.S. President Donald Trump linked the widespread unrest in France to uncontrolled immigration, claiming that open-border policies would soon turn Paris into a Muslim city, NDTV reports.
Speaking to reporters in Washington, Trump stressed that the protests in France "have to do with immigration, not schools, not anything."
“It's immigration, and I told President Emmanuel Macron, close up your borders.” Trump said. His remarks came amid mass demonstrations in Paris and other French cities that escalated into violent street riots.
Trump recounted a conversation with Macron, telling him "a long time ago, you're making a big mistake in France. You're letting everybody from the world come in. The whole world was coming in."
The president warned European leaders of serious consequences stemming from their immigration policies, adding, “Paris is going to be a Muslim city very soon.”
"If Europe doesn't close its borders and bring the criminals out, like the people that are protesting, Europe is finished," he concluded.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that following riots in Paris, pork products and alcohol were the only items left untouched in one store.
