Volyn Eparchy faithful collect six tons of aid for Sviatohirsk Lavra
Believers in Volyn collected food and warm clothing for people displaced by the war who have found shelter at Sviatohirsk Lavra.
Clergy and faithful of the Horokhiv Deanery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s Volyn Eparchy collected nearly six tons of humanitarian aid for Sviatohirsk Lavra, which provides shelter to people affected by the war, the UOC Information Center reports.
Residents of Horokhiv and surrounding villages joined the charitable effort, donating homemade preserves, vegetables, flour, sugar, sweets, and other nonperishable foods. Elderly parishioners contributed warm socks they had knitted themselves. The parishes of St. Elijah’s Church and St. John the Russian Church in Lutsk also took part in the initiative.
One particularly touching gesture came from an elderly woman in Marianivka who, unable to contribute food because of her health, donated 3,000 hryvnias from her pension. When a priest asked whether that was too much for her to give, she replied, “Let it go toward diesel fuel.”
Sunday school students prepared drawings and letters for the displaced residents, offering words of encouragement and wishes for peace. Clergy and parishioners worked together to sort, pack, and deliver the donations to Kivertsi, from where they will be transported to Sviatohirsk Lavra.
Archpriest Oleksandr Kondratiuk, dean of the Kivertsi district, thanked everyone who contributed to the collection, emphasizing that every donation is an expression of love for one’s neighbor.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that UOC volunteers had delivered 30 tons of humanitarian aid from Bukovyna to Sviatohirsk Lavra.
