Zelensky sees murder of Polish priest but not of Sviatohirsk monk
Why does Zelensky react so emotionally and swiftly to the murder of a Catholic cleric while remaining completely silent about the murder of an Orthodox monk?
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a stunning statement. He condemned the murder of a Catholic priest committed in Poland.
"As of today, the death of a priest and the injury of several other people are known. We express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. We wish the speediest recovery to all those injured," Zelensky said.
He emphasized that he expects "the swiftest and most thorough investigation of all the circumstances," and that “the one guilty of this evil must be held fully accountable under the law; justice must prevail." According to the president, he is "pained that people are capable of such horrific crimes." So why did we call Zelenskyy’s statement remarkable, when everything he said is entirely fair?
Because yesterday marked exactly one month since an almost identical crime occurred at the Sviatohirsk Lavra. A monk was killed there, and two more were injured. And this happened not in Poland but in Ukraine — the country whose president is Volodymyr Zelensky.
Yet we heard not a single word about the atrocity in Sviatohirsk — neither from Zelensky, nor from the prime minister, nor from any other representative of the authorities. The president said nothing about "the swiftest and most thorough investigation of all the circumstances" of the murder of Fr. Varsonofiy, did not emphasize that "the one guilty of this evil must must be held fully accountable under the law."
After all, as president he was obliged to ensure the enforcement of that very law. Apparently, he was not "pained that people are capable of such terrible crimes."
But why?
Why does Zelensky react so emotionally and swiftly to the murder of a Catholic cleric while remaining completely silent about the killing of an Orthodox monk? He wishes recovery to those injured in Poland and takes no notice of wounded Ukrainians?
Which country is Volodymyr Zelensky the president of?
Has the struggle against the UOC entered his heart so deeply that he cannot see how this looks from the outside? This is no longer even double standards — this is a demonstrative contempt for his own citizens. Those very citizens whose rights and interests Zelensky is obliged to protect.
