Gift of Orthodoxy and Schism in Ukraine. Interview with Metropolitan Gabriel (Bulgaria), July 27, 2015

His Eminence Gabriel Levchensky (the Bulgarian Orthodox Church) was one of the foreign guests invited to ceremonies commemorating Prince Vladimir the Great, the Baptist of Rus. We were able to literally snatch him from the crowd of pilgrims, surrounding Metropolitan to ask some questions.

We talked about the role of Prince Vladimir in the history of our nation and the world of Orthodoxy in general, raised the question of faith. A special attention was paid to schism in Ukrainian Orthodoxy as it is seen from abroad and the ways to overcome it. We talked on the painful topic for all of us - the war in the east of Ukraine, which poses a threat to Orthodox ties of brotherhood.

"The Church is a body. Schism rejects pieces from it and those missing pieces fail along with the body. It is a great misfortune, a great sin ... You should treasure the holy faith, which the Holy Prince Vladimir brought to Ukraine to enlighten it."
