California schools forbidden to tell parents about children's LGBT identity
Elon Musk announced the decision to move X headquarters from California to Texas in response to Governor Gavin Newsom's signing of the relevant bill.
In California, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill prohibiting schools from informing anyone, including parents, about a child's transgender identity. The corresponding document was published on the state’s website on July 15.
"This bill would prohibit school districts, county offices of education, charter schools, and the state special schools, and a member of the governing board or body of those educational entities, from enacting or enforcing any policy, rule, or administrative regulation that requires an employee or a contractor to disclose any information related to a pupil’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression to any other person without the pupil’s consent unless otherwise required by law, as provided," the document reads.
This effectively means that local schools are forbidden from setting rules that require notifying parents if their child identifies as transgender.
"Choosing when to 'come out' by disclosing an LGBTQ+ identity, and to whom, are deeply personal decisions, impacting health and safety as well as critical relationships, that every LGBTQ+ person has the right to make for themselves," the document states. "Parents and families across California understand that coming out as LGBTQ+ is an extremely personal decision and want to support their children in coming out to them on their own terms," it further specifies.
As is known, in California, it is illegal to sell alcohol to individuals under the age of 21. However, children can determine their sexual orientation at school without parental knowledge.
American entrepreneur Elon Musk announced the decision to move the headquarters of X (formerly Twitter) and SpaceX from California to Texas in response to Governor Gavin Newsom's signing of this bill.
"This is the final straw. Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas," Musk wrote on X.
This is the final straw.
