Abbot of Zographou Monastery on Mount Athos departs to the Lord
The press office of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church noted that Abbot Ambrose imparted the true meaning to the word "father".
On January 27, 2025, Abbot Ambrose (Tyurolyengov), the superior of the Bulgarian Zographou Monastery on Mount Athos, passed away, according to the press office of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
On January 28, 2025, at 9:30 AM, a memorial Divine Liturgy was held for the newly departed Schema-Archimandrite Ambrose (Tyurolyengov), Abbot of the Zographou Monastery, at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint Nedelya, followed by a panikhida (memorial service) at 11:00 AM.
Schema-Archimandrite Ambrose was born on November 11, 1939, in the village of Novakovo, Asenovgrad district. From a young age, he dedicated his life to God. After graduating from the theological seminary in Cherepish, he became a novice at the Bachkovo Monastery in 1973, where he took monastic vows in 1977. Four years later, Father Ambrose moved to Mount Athos, where he was elected Abbot of the Zographou Monastery in 1997.
Abbot Ambrose gave profound meaning to the word "father", having hundreds of spiritual children not only on Mount Athos but also in Bulgaria.
"Only God can measure the comfort he gave, the tears he wiped away, and the souls he transformed. Many found their way to monasticism, others became priests, and some rediscovered the meaning of the word 'love' through his guidance," stated the press office of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
Father Ambrose was revered throughout Mount Athos for his humility, with many testifying that after meeting him, everything suddenly felt easier and solvable.
"Everyone who encountered him holds a treasured memory that somehow changed their lives. Now, they feel as though they have lost their father," emphasized the press office of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
Previously, the UOJ reported that the brotherhood of Zographou Monastery on Mount Athos expressed their support for Metropolitan Onuphry.
