Law enforcement authorities are investigating possible incitement of religious hatred by UOC Protodeacon Vadym Novinskyi.

Investigators from the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) have gained access to important documents in the case of Protodeacon and former MP Vadym Novynskyi, Glavcom reports, citing court registry data. The court granted the SBI permission to seize certified copies of Novynskyi’s autobiography, educational documents, Ukrainian passport, property and income declarations, and financial obligations.

According to the ongoing pre-trial investigation, which has been underway since January 2023, law enforcement is examining the circumstances under which Novynskyi, “maintaining close ties with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Rus’ and serving as a protodeacon, together with other unidentified individuals, engaged in actions aimed at inciting religious enmity and hatred, as well as systematically taking measures over a long period to assist the terrorist activities of the head of the Moscow Patriarchate.”

Investigators have not specified which “inciting actions” Novynskyi allegedly committed or against whom.

The court also permitted the SBI to obtain a copy of the presidential decree signed by Viktor Yanukovych on May 29, 2012, granting Novynskyi Ukrainian citizenship for “outstanding services to Ukraine.”

Earlier, UOJ reported that former MP and UOC Protodeacon Vadym Novynskyi was charged with treason.
