Court case on banning Kyiv Metropolia postponed indefinitely
According to UOC lawyer Fr. Nikita Chekman, the case materials concerning the ban of the Kyiv Metropolia have been transferred to the Cassation Court, and therefore the hearing in the Court of Appeal will not take place.
The hearing at the Sixth Court of Appeal in Kyiv on the lawsuit filed by the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience seeking to terminate the activities of the Kyiv Metropolia of the UOC, which had been scheduled for December 11, 2025, has been postponed indefinitely, lawyer of the Metropolia Archpriest Nikita Chekman reported. He stated that the case materials were sent to the Cassation Court, and it is unknown when they will be returned to the appellate court.
“Without the case materials, the court cannot proceed, and when the materials will be returned is unclear – therefore, the hearing has been postponed indefinitely,” the lawyer emphasized.
As a reminder, hearings on the DESS lawsuit seeking to ban the Kyiv Metropolia have been ongoing since September 2025. The September 30 hearing did not take place due to the sudden illness of a judge. On October 30, procedural issues were considered.
