Iranian authorities accuse protesters of setting fire to 350 mosques
According to the head of Iran's Foreign Ministry, the arson attacks on mosques indicate the organized and externally supported nature of the riots.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that participants in recent protests in the country were involved in the arson of at least 350 mosques. This was reported by Baku TV.
According to the minister, Tehran intends to pursue the organizers of violence both domestically and internationally.
The minister reported that among the protesters were armed groups that opened fire on the police and civilians.
According to him, "the demonstrators attacked ambulances, city buses. They strangely targeted mosques. And this is truly surprising. No Iranian would dare to set fire to a place of worship."
The Foreign Minister clarified that up to 350 mosques were set on fire in total, which causes serious concern among Iranian authorities and emphasizes, in their opinion, the organized and externally supported nature of the riots.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that five Christians were sentenced to combined 50 years for Christmas prayers in Iran.
