Trans teen opens fire at Canadian school, nine dead
In Canada, an 18-year-old trans student opened fire at a secondary school, killing nine people, after which the attacker took their own life.
On February 11, 2026, a shooting occurred at a secondary school in the town of Tumbler Ridge, Canada, leaving ten people dead, including the attacker, the BBC reports.
According to law enforcement, the gunfire was opened by 18-year-old Jesse Strang. Police said the suspect was transgender and had previously identified as male before later identifying as female. After the attack, the shooter died by suicide. Six bodies were found inside the school building; one person died on the way to the hospital; two others were found dead in a neighboring house.
More than 20 people were injured, two of them in critical condition. Police are establishing the motive and the circumstances of how the attack was planned.
The outlet reports that since the start of the year Strang had posted content on social media related to school shootings, and began preparing for the attack last year. Investigators are examining online activity and the suspect’s contacts.
