Romanian Church to hold joint prayer for peace in Ukraine
On the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the war in Ukraine, special prayers for an end to the hostility will be offered in all churches of the Romanian Patriarchate, both in the country and abroad.
On February 22, 2026, special services with prayers for peace will be held in all parishes, monasteries, hospital and social chapels of the Romanian Patriarchate, marking four years since the outbreak of the devastating war in Ukraine, as reported by the official news agency of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Basilica.
According to the agency, Romanian Orthodox priests, both in the country and throughout the diaspora, will pray in parish churches, monastery chapels and churches, as well as in hospital and social-centre chapels, for the cessation of hostility, for the softening of hearts inclined toward war, and for the support and consolation of the wounded, refugees and all those affected by the scourge of war.
The concluding words of this prayer, as cited by the publication, are addressed to Christ: “You said: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Teach us to seek to acquire peace of heart and peace among individuals and peoples, for, in the heart in which peace dwells, there is no longer enmity, love of dominion or fear, but the comfort of the Holy Spirit, love of God and love of our neighbours.” The prayer concludes with a petition for the well-being of the whole world and that people in every country may live in harmony and freely carry out works pleasing to God.
As Basilica notes, the faithful are also encouraged to read the full text of the prayers for peace recommended by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel from the very beginning of the war.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that on the anniversary of the Russian invasion, prayers for peace will be offered in UOC churches.
