Family of three slain in India after converting to Christianity
Tribal relatives allegedly murdered converts in Odisha following dispute over adoption of Christian faith.
On January 25, 2026, in the village of Nialijaran in Keonjhar district (Odisha state, India), three Christians were killed, including a 15-year-old girl. According to sources, relatives murdered the family because of their conversion to Christianity, as reported by Christian Daily.
According to the publication, close relatives were involved in the killings. The initial version of the crime suggested a domestic or land dispute, but representatives of the victims’ family state that the real reason for the attack was their conversion to Christianity.
It is reported that the murdered man and woman are survived by three children. Two daughters witnessed the killing but managed to escape. One of the sons was not at home at the time of the crime.
The family reportedly embraced Christianity several months ago, which caused dissatisfaction among relatives who follow traditional tribal beliefs. The Christian community is calling for a fair investigation of the crime and is asking for prayers for the surviving children.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the European Parliament condemned Turkey for deportations of Christians from the country.
