Thousands of believers walked in a procession through the capital of Montenegro, honoring the memory of Saint Simeon the Myrrh-Streaming.

Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral led the festive service on February 21, 2026, at the Christ's Resurrection Cathdral in Podgorica to commemorate Saint Simeon the Myrrh-Streaming, the heavenly patron of Montenegro's capital, and a procession from the cathedral to the city of Nemanja. This is reported by Orthodoxia News Agency.

The service was attended by hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Ohrid Archbishopric. The service was attended by government representatives, including Parliament Chairman Andrija Mandić and Podgorica Mayor Saša Mujović.

After the Liturgy, a traditional procession took place through the city streets, in which thousands of believers participated.

In conclusion of the celebration, Metropolitan Joanikije highlighted the spiritual and state heritage of Saint Simeon, noting that his life is an example of faith, repentance, and service to the people. The hierarch emphasized that honoring Saint Simeon unites the people of Montenegro in Christian values and historical memory.

As the UOJ reported, Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral urged Orthodox believers to pray for the speedy reconciliation of Russia and Ukraine and the end of the fratricidal war.
