National Memory Institute: Lavra is sacred center for Catholics and Protestants
The head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Oleksandr Alferov, said the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is a shared shrine for Catholics, Protestants, and Orthodox Christians.
Chairman of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory Oleksandr Alferov stated that the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra is a sacred place for all Ukrainian Christians, regardless of denomination.
“For Ukraine, for our Ukrainian Church, for the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, this is a sacred place that is holy not only for us, but also for Catholics, for Protestants, for everyone who believes in Christ. Because it was precisely here that this sacred center was created,” he said at the ceremony marking the reopening of the Near Caves.
Minister of Culture Berezhna, a Greek Catholic, said the doors of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra should be open “to everyone who prays for Ukraine.” She added that she had visited the Lavra’s Caves for the first time.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Dumenko called the reopening of the Near Caves a step toward victory over Russia.
