Christian series "The Chosen" sets world record for being most widely-translated
The streaming series The Chosen, which explores the life of Jesus and his disciples, has broken its own Guinness World Record for being the most widely-translated series of all time.
The Gospel-inspired show is now available in 125 languages. This is reported by premierchristian.
The Christian series, which tells the story of the Savior through the eyes of His disciples, became a Guinness Book of World Records holder thanks to its fifth season, translated into 125 languages. The project has been developing since 2017 and is implemented by the non-profit organization Come and See. Producer Dallas Jenkins chose a crowdfunding model, allowing viewers to directly finance production.
The creators note that the project's goal is to bring the Gospel narrative to as many people around the world as possible. Previously, the series was available in 86 languages, and the new season received subtitles in more than 50 and dubbing in 36. Before completing the saga, they plan to reach 600 language versions.
For comparison, Netflix offers its programs in 45 languages.
"It is a lot of work," said Dr Wendi Lord, vice president of content localisation, in an interview with Premier Christian News. "Like any other Hollywood show, our studios and translation teams take a first pass at the script. But from there, we are very, very different. We then have a pastor or theologian review the translation to ensure that it is faithful to the Bible. Then the actors go into the studio, record it, and once again, it goes through a second theological review, just in case anyone went off script."
"Our focus is to make sure that it's very faithful to the actual story," she emphasized.
Come and See said the show's translations have made it a vital "outreach tool".
As the UOJ reported, Hollywood actors Jonathan Roumie, who played Jesus Christ in the popular series "The Chosen," and Mark Wahlberg recorded an address in which they reminded us about the spiritual meaning of Great Lent and the importance of prayer.
