The Ternopil Regional Prosecutor’s Office has filed a lawsuit against a local OCU parish for UAH 1.2 million.

The regional prosecutor’s office has filed a claim against the OCU religious community of St. Job of Pochaiv, the developer of a multi-story residential building in Ternopil, demanding payment of UAH 1.201 million as a mandatory infrastructure contribution, the agency said on its official website.

The prosecutor’s office is seeking to recover the fee earmarked for the city’s infrastructure development. The case concerns funds that should have been paid after the completion of a 10-story apartment building with 44 units. The building, with a total area of more than 3,300 square meters, was constructed next to a church on Lubomyr Husar Street, on a plot that the city council had allocated for religious buildings.

In order to secure revenue for the local budget, prosecutors have taken the case to court. Proceedings have already been opened.

According to media reports, community head Orest Kitsylynskiy called the claims unfounded. He says the required contribution has already been paid and promised to provide the documents later.

As the UOJ previously reported, prosecutors in Ternopil region are also seeking to return an OCU monastery to state ownership.
