ISIS threatened Pope Leo XIV with death before his visit to Spain

A radical group has distributed posters calling for the murder of the pontiff during his apostolic journey to Madrid and Barcelona.

Terrorists from the "Islamic State" have published a series of threats against Pope Leo XIV on the eve of his visit to Spain, which will take place from June 6 to 12, 2026. As reported by Tribune Chrétienne, the jihadists' propaganda materials call for the physical elimination of the head of the Catholic Church. The radicals accompanied the visual materials with the inscription "Make his days the last."

The propaganda campaign is directed against public meetings and religious ceremonies during the papal visit. One of the central events of the trip will be the consecration of the Tower of Christ in the Sagrada Familia cathedral in Barcelona. Despite the risk of terrorist attacks and calls for violence from radicals, the Vatican decided not to change the visit program. Spanish authorities have already strengthened security measures and introduced a special vigilance regime in places of mass pilgrim gatherings.

Leo XIV's trip is accompanied not only by external threats but also by political pressure within the country. Under the influence of Catalan separatists, the Vatican changed the original liturgical protocol at Sagrada Familia. Initially, the blessing of the Tower of Christ was to be pronounced in Spanish, but after protests from local politicians, including Carles Puigdemont, the Pope agreed to use the Catalan language.

As reported by SPJ, the Pope called on Christians and Muslims to jointly "revive humanity."
