In England, Catholics launch official dialogue with Pentecostals
In London, Catholics discussed with Pentecostals the possibilities for joint preaching of the Gospel.
The Catholic Church of England and representatives of the Pentecostal movement held an "official" dialogue in London on June 5, 2026, reports the Christian Today.
The meeting took place at the offices of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales in Eccleston Square, London, mediated by the organization "Churches Together in England" (CTE). The dialogue participants called this event a historic step in the development of interfaith relations in the country. Representatives of both traditions shared experiences of spiritual life and discussed opportunities for joint preaching of the Gospel.
Dr Stayne, reflecting on the day’s events, said that he hoped the relationships built during the day could be deepened and pave the way to future collaboration.
“Being filled with the Holy Spirit, as William J Seymour once noted, ‘brings us all into one common family’. And as Pope Leo XIV recently commented, it is the Holy Spirit ‘who inspires us and impels us towards full unity and the common witness to the Gospel’.
The delegates focused on finding areas of agreement and addressed sensitive issues that had previously caused divisions between denominations. The parties expressed hope for deepening relationships in order to overcome contradictions within Western Christianity.
As the UOJ reported, the Pope called for "full visible unity of all Christians".
