The OCU called the shelling of the Dormition Cathedral payback for sacrilege in the Lavra
An "OCU bishop" saw "God’s allowance" in the fire at the main shrine of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
The "Archbishop" of Zhytomyr and Polesia of the OCU, Vasyl Shlapak, wrote on his Facebook page that the destruction of the Dormition Cathedral was connected to an "encroachment on God" by those who allowed entertainment events in the monastery.
In his reasoning, the tragedy was a consequence of the fact that during the war, dances, singing, and cooking shows were held in churches, especially during the Christmas holidays.
As an example of "sacrilege," Shlapak cited singer Olga Polyakova’s performance wearing a crown of thorns against the backdrop of a cross. The author of the post emphasized that for such actions, those responsible should be subjected at the very least to church penance.
As the UOJ reported, a song and dance ensemble performed in the Lavra’s Refectory Church.
