Authorities showed the President of Honduras and a US diplomat the destruction at the Lavra
The National Reserve noted that the participation of international partners in documenting the destruction is of great importance.
Accompanied by representatives of the Ministry of Culture and the Reserve's Director General Maksym Ostapenko, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was visited by foreign guests: the President of the Republic of Honduras Nasry Asfura and the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Spencer Chretien. This was reported by the Reserve on Facebook.
The President of Honduras was shown the Assumption Cathedral, where the roof was almost completely destroyed. The guest was shown fragments of the drone found on the territory of the Lavra immediately after the attack.
At the moment, Reserve employees are carrying out emergency repair and restoration work — workers have already managed to cover about 70% of the damaged roof of the cathedral. In memory of the visit, Nasry Asfura received a publication dedicated to the history and architectural heritage of the cathedral.
For his part, American diplomat Spencer Chretien examined a tablet exhibition that reveals the tragic pages in the history of the Lavra's main cathedral. The exposition covers periods from the founding of the cathedral to its destruction by an explosion in 1941 and its subsequent restoration at the end of the 20th century.
A separate section of the exhibition is devoted to the events of June 15 of this year. The diplomat was presented with fragments of the Assumption Cathedral's copper roof, riddled with shrapnel, and parts of the aircraft itself that crashed on the territory of the Lavra.
The National Reserve emphasized the importance of documenting such destruction by international partners, since such strikes are directed not only against buildings, but also against the "historical memory and culture" of the Ukrainian people.
As SPZh reported, Zelensky showed Trump a photo of the burning Assumption Cathedral of the Lavra.
