Chancellor spoke out against recognizing LGBT as the norm for the sake of EU accession
Metropolitan Anthony commented on the call to support the rights of representatives of non-traditional orientation as one of the conditions for Ukraine's European integration.
The Chancellor of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Metropolitan of Boryspil and Brovary Anthony (Pakanich) stated that recognizing sin as the norm is incompatible with Christian teaching. He wrote about this in a commentary published on the website «Orthodox Life».
The occasion for the statement was a call by the LGBT center «Nash Svit» to the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations to publicly support the rights of representatives of non-traditional sexual orientation, indicating that this is allegedly one of the conditions for Ukraine's accession to the European Union.
«Acquiescing to the recognition of sin as the norm is nothing other than a betrayal of the Lord», — emphasized Metropolitan Anthony. According to him, Christians are being asked to abandon the evangelical worldview and moral norms based on Holy Scripture. He reminded that, according to biblical teaching, God created man «male and female», and the Church consistently regards same-sex relations as sin.
The hierarch noted that, despite social and political pressure, the Church cannot change its attitude toward the evangelical commandments. «For a genuine religious consciousness based on Holy Scripture, a distorted view of man, a disfigured anthropology is unacceptable», — concluded Metropolitan Anthony.
As the UOJ reported, a Norwegian foundation promoting LGBT allocated €1.5 million to journalists of Ukraine.
