Denmark initiates ban on wearing hijab in schools and universities

Violation of the new law carries a fine of 10,000 kroner.

The Danish government has initiated an expansion of the ban on wearing hijabs in all educational institutions in the country. The new measure is aimed at strengthening the integration of migrants. This is reported by GB News.

The legislative proposal was introduced by the administration of Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The initiative extends the rules that have been in effect since 2018 for public spaces to schools and universities. According to the bill, burqas and hijabs are banned, and citizens face a fine of up to 10,000 kroner ($1,530) for repeated violations.

"The government will present a number of legislative proposals... This includes, among other things, a bill to strengthen measures against parallel societies and negative social control," sources quote a statement from the Ministry of Immigration.

Danish authorities emphasized that such measures are necessary in areas where the proportion of migrants from non-Western countries exceeds half of the population. The authorities' policy is driven by the desire to limit the "creeping Islamization" that Danish authorities had previously complained about.
