Zelensky orders all archives on Volhynia massacre opened
Following a meeting on relations with Poland, the Ukrainian president announced a decision to open archival documents concerning the Volhynia massacre and expand exhumation work.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that Ukraine will open archives held by the Security Service of Ukraine and the Foreign Intelligence Service concerning the tragic events of the 20th century in Volhynia. He made the statement following a meeting devoted to Ukrainian-Polish relations.
According to Zelensky, the development of good-neighborly relations between the two countries, “built on respect,” remains a priority of Ukraine’s policy toward Poland.
He said that the meeting identified several areas for further cooperation with Poland. In particular, a decision was made to open archival materials related to the Volhynia massacre.
“All archives of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine concerning the tragic events of the 20th century in Volhynia will be opened,” the president said.
Zelensky also announced that Ukraine would issue additional permits for search and exhumation work. According to him, the work will be carried out jointly with the Polish side.
As previously reported by the UOJ, an amendment has been submitted in the European Parliament to its report on Ukraine’s progress toward European Union membership, proposing that further progress in accession negotiations be linked to the issue of the Volhynia massacre.
