Dumenko explained to Polish politicians how to overcome historical contradictions
Epifaniy Dumenko proposed using the approach of John Paul II to resolve contradictions.
The head of the OCU Epifaniy Dumenko proposed that the Polish authorities use the formula of the Pope to resolve historical disputes. At a meeting with the authorized representative of the Polish government Paweł Kowal, he called for seeking mutual understanding on issues of the past.
During the conversation at the residence at St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery, the parties discussed the development of relations between the countries and the importance of personal contacts. Dumenko emphasized that to overcome contradictions, the approach of John Paul II — "We forgive and ask for forgiveness" — should be applied.
According to him, "sincere dialogue" is necessary in order not to allow Russia to use old grievances to stoke conflicts, in which he sees a direct benefit for the Russian Federation.
The head of the OCU also expressed gratitude to the Polish people for their support. Particular attention was paid by the meeting participants to the situation in the uncontrolled territories, where, according to Dumenko, persecution of religious communities and destruction of churches are taking place. In particular, he mentioned the recent strike on the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
The meeting was also attended by OCU spokesman Yevstratiy Zorya and representatives of the Sejm and the Polish Embassy Arkadiusz Sarna and Krzysztof Kuboń.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Dumenko stated the need to create a National Pantheon of Heroes.
