Metropolitan of the Constantinople Church Consecrated a Naval Base in Crete
Metropolitan of Kydonia and Apokoronas Titus performed the rite of consecration at the naval base of Crete.
On August 10, 2026, Metropolitan of Kydonia and Apokoronas Titus, a hierarch of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, visited the naval base of Crete and performed a rite of consecration there. This was reported by Orthodoxia News Agency.
It is reported that the visit took place at the invitation of the commander of the naval base of Crete. Metropolitan Titus performed the rite of water blessing (agiasmos) and offered prayers for the protection of the officers, sailors, and civilian personnel of the base. In his address, the hierarch reminded those present of the beginning of the Dormition Fast and called on them to spend these days in prayer.
The Metropolitan presented the base commander with an icon of the Mother of God Portaitissa from the Athonite Iveron Monastery, expressing his wish that the Mother of God would shelter and protect the personnel of the base.
As the SPJ reported, the Greek opposition demands the repeal of the law on the election of metropolitans of the Church of Crete.
