Court Opens Proceedings Over Property of the UOC Cherkasy Diocese
The hearing of the lawsuit concerning the building complex of the UOC Cherkasy Diocese has been scheduled for September 17.
The Commercial Court of Cherkasy Oblast has opened proceedings in case No. 925/1119/26 concerning the property of the Cherkasy Diocese of the UOC and exempted the plaintiff from paying court fees amounting to 975,000 hryvnias. The court has scheduled the hearing for September 17, 2026, at 10:30, as reported by Archpriest Nikita Chekman on his Telegram channel.
Supporters of the OCU are seeking recognition of ownership rights over the building complex at 212 Nadpolna Street. This list includes the St. Michael's Cathedral, the diocesan administration building, a school, and other structures. Previously, these properties belonged to the Administration of the Cherkasy Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The supporters of Dumenko's structure did not build these buildings and have no connection whatsoever to their construction. The churches and other diocesan buildings were erected by the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church using their own funds and donations. The UOC Cherkasy Diocese intends to defend its rights to its property through the courts.
As a reminder, the Cherkasy City Council in 2022–2024 initiated the seizure of a 12-hectare land plot from the UOC Cherkasy Diocese. As a result, the deputies transferred approximately 8.7 hectares of land to the municipal enterprise "Directorate of Parks" for the development of the "Soborny" park, and on December 18, 2025, transferred approximately 3.1 hectares to the OCU, on which the cathedral, the diocesan administration, and the Sunday school premises are located.
As the SPJ reported, the authorities of Kharkiv seized land from the UOC diocese in Soborny Square.
