Conference to mark 1700th anniversary of Christianity adoption held in Georgia
In Georgia, representatives of the Church and the state noted the defining role of Christianity in the country's cultural development.
An international conference dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the proclamation of Christianity as the state religion of Georgia was held in Tbilisi, reports the UOJ in Georgia.
The meeting was attended by Georgian Patriarch Shio, hierarchs of the Georgian Orthodox Church, delegations of other Local Orthodox Churches, as well as members of the Georgian government.
During the conference, speakers focused on the historical significance of the proclamation of Christianity as the state religion, as well as on the defining role of Christian values in the cultural and state development of the country.
In addition, representatives of the Local Churches discussed issues of protecting the Christian heritage, developing inter-Church cooperation, and strengthening ties between the Orthodox Churches.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Georgia's prime minister called the Christian faith the basis of the country's aspiration to join the European Union.
