On October 12, 2026, Catholicos-Patriarch Shio III of All Georgia received a visiting delegation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), according to the UOC's Information and Education Department. The meeting took place at the Georgian Patriarchate.
The delegation traveled to Georgia at the invitation of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church and with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine. The visit was timed to coincide with celebrations marking the 1,700th anniversary of Christianity's adoption as the state religion in Georgia.
The delegation included Metropolitan Sergiy of Ternopil and Kremenets, Archbishop Job of Shumsk, Archpriest Vasyl Vozniuk, and Deacon Maksym Savchuk.
During the meeting, Patriarch Shio expressed his respect for the Primate of the UOC, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry. The Georgian Patriarch wished the Ukrainian people peace, patience, and the strength to overcome the difficulties facing their Church.
Patriarch Shio said that not only he personally but the entire Georgian people sympathize with Ukrainians, having experienced hardships of their own and understanding the trials Ukraine is enduring. He assured the delegation that Georgian believers are praying for their brothers and sisters in Ukraine.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Primate of the Georgian Orthodox Church and the UOC representatives exchanged commemorative gifts.
As the UOJ previously reported, on October 11, UOC representatives concelebrated the Divine Liturgy with the Primate and hierarchs of the Georgian Orthodox Church at the Holy Trinity Patriarchal Cathedral in Tbilisi.
