Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos Monastery, Cherkasy

On November 20, 2023, the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Monastery of the UOC in Cherkasy was forcibly seized. Clergy of the OCU participated in the assault along with people in military uniforms, among whom were active servicemen of the 3rd Assault Brigade of the AFU. Before the seizure, the raiders installed new locks and presented forged documents about the alleged "transition" of the monastery to the OCU, despite no community meetings being held. The police and the SBU were present but did not intervene.
During the assault, nuns, priests, and parishioners were brutally beaten: a priest had his jaw broken, an elderly parishioner had his leg broken, and the injured were hospitalized. The attackers confiscated phones, vandalized cells, desecrated holy items, and then blocked the hospital where the wounded were. Despite the visit of the UN Monitoring Mission and the initiation of criminal cases, none of the attackers were held accountable, and the monastery is still held by the OCU raiders.
