The Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ of the UOC in Ivano-Frankivsk — the last UOC church in the city — was subjected to systematic pressure from local authorities and activists of the OCU throughout 2022–2023. The city's mayor, Ruslan Martsinkiv, publicly spread false information about the "transition" of the community and called on citizens for forceful intervention, despite the fact that on June 26, 2022, almost 500 parishioners unanimously confirmed their loyalty to the UOC. Attempts at seizure and provocations continued, including the first assault during a service in December 2022.

On March 28, 2023, the church was forcibly seized: attackers broke into the cathedral, used tear gas and nerve agents against the faithful and clergy, resulting in a priest being hospitalized with severe poisoning. None of the attackers were held accountable, and the cathedral remains seized, effectively completing the liquidation of the UOC in Ivano-Frankivsk.
