Kievites collect 12 thousand signatures in support of Tithes Monastery of UOC

Orthodox Kievites have collected 12 thousand signatures in support of the Tithes (Desyatinny) Monastery of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos for three days. On February 8, the petition "On securing the right to freedom of worship of believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and public order around the Tithes temple (chapel)" was sent to the chairman of KCSA V.V. Klitschko, reports the Information and Education Department of the UOC.

The petition notes that the ownership of the Tithes Church (chapel) is properly registered (in the State Register of real property rights the Tithes Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in the Shevchenkovsky district of Kiev is assigned to the religious community of the UOC).

"The UOC religious community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church the Tithes Temple of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos actually has carried out the improvement of the adjacent territory (as indicated in the President's order No. 217/2004-rp), and provided conditions not only for excursions to this ancient Ukrainian sight, but also for the prayerful atmosphere," the document says.

Drawing attention of the Kiev mayor to the exceptional importance of the Church of the Virgin (Tithes) as a symbol of the ancient Ukrainian statehood, Orthodox believers note that "its role in the establishment of the national and cultural traditions of the Ukrainian people is our common heartfelt impulse, approved by the President of Ukraine since 2000, which continues to this day".

Believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church ask the head of the Kiev City State Administration to ensure the existing property right, not to prevent believers from exercising their right to freedom of worship in Kiev and prevent religious enmity in the capital.

It is worth noting that a much smaller number of signatures was collected under the petition for the demolition of the Tithes Monastery, posted on the site of the KCSA last November by the head of the pagan community "Fern Flower".

The collection of signatures to protect the church and freedom of worship began on February 4 and will continue further. Anyone who wishes to join the initiative can refer to the temples of the Kiev eparchy of the UOC.

Recall, January 25 radicals from the S14 group attacked the Tithes Monastery, and at night tried to commit arson. On February 3, about 200 radicals staged protests at the walls of the monastery, threatening to dismantle the temple. More than three thousand Orthodox Kievites came to support the monastery's brethren that day.

Earlier, the political analyst Yakubin expressed an opinion that the events around the Tithes Monastery could provoke the strongest reaction of Washington.
