Documents on violations of believers’ rights in Ukraine transferred to EU

On March 5 during the work of the regular session of the UN Human Rights Council NGO Public Advocacy Oleg Denisov spoke with the delegates about possible ways of overcoming the crisis-hit stance of the Church in the country. It is reported by the site of the human rights organization.
NGO Public Advocacy, taking advantage of the rights granted to the organizations in consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council and in accordance with the procedure of the UN HRC, filed applications regarding violations of the rights of Orthodox communities in Ukraine, as well as violations of the rights of journalists and human rights defenders. These statements are included in the agenda of the 37th Session of the UN Human Rights Council.
Oleg Denisov also met with the Special Envoy of the EU on the promotion of freedom of religion and belief outside the EU, Mr. Jan Figel. During the meeting, the possibility of overcoming the plight of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was discussed in view of the numerous cases of violations of the rights of believers and the exacerbation of religious confrontation in society. Jan Figel was given a human rights report on violations of the rights of Orthodox Christians and copies of written statements addressed to the UN Human Rights Council.
