Pat. Bartholomew calls Zelensky to promote Christian unity

Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople

On April 24, Patriarch Bartholomew sent a letter of commendation to Vladimir Zelensky. The congratulatory message was published by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey Andrii Sybiha on Twitter.

“Our thoughts and prayers are always with all people of goodwill, and this is precisely why our Venerable Institution welcomes all initiatives that seek to promote Christian unity and dialogue, as well as mutual respect and peaceful coexistence throughout the world – among people, nations and religions,” writes Patriarch Bartholomew.

He noted: "Our Sacred Center firmly holds in its heart and mind the past and present contributions that it has made to your proud Nation for its enhanced welfare and spiritual prosperity, both in word and in deed."

The Patriarch of Constantinople recalled that “centuries of common history and common struggle unite the Ecumenical Patriarchate with the noble people of Ukraine, and it pleases us to witness the progress and life that your country continues to gain for itself day by day – a life that is worthy to have and a destiny that it rightly pursues".

In conclusion, the head of the Patriarchate of Constantinople expressed confidence in the charisma and administrative abilities of the newly elected President and promised to pray for him.

As the UOJ reported, earlier “Patriarch of Kiev and all Rus-Ukraine” Filaret congratulated Vladimir Zelensky on his victory in the presidential election, compared him with Petliura and Prince Vladimir, and also set the new President the first task – the consolidation of all pro-Ukrainian and state forces, in which he promised his help. The "hierarch" did not ask for an apology for the “thermos”.
