Archbishop of UOC Expresses Condolences to Families of Those Killed in Dnipro Shelling
Metropolitan Irinei called upon the clergy and laity to offer special prayers for all victims of the shelling that occurred on the night of June 2.
Metropolitan Irenaeus of Dnipropetrovsk and Pavlograd expressed deep condolences to the families of those killed and injured as a result of the shelling of Dnipro on the night of June 2, 2026. As reported by the UOC Information Center, the hierarch called what happened a cruel attempt to overshadow the joy of the feast of the Holy Trinity.
His Grace noted that he received the news of the tragedy in his native city with deep pain. "We share the inexpressible grief of families who have lost their dearest ones. There are no words that could fully ease this pain, but we know that the Lord is close to those who are broken-hearted," the archpastor emphasized in his address. Metropolitan Irenaeus called on the clergy and laity of the diocese to intensify prayers for the repose of the souls of the killed, the healing of the wounded, and the speedy onset of peace in Ukraine.
As a result of the night strike in Dnipro, 12 people were killed, including two children - a boy born in 2023 and an eight-year-old child. Rescuers extracted their bodies from under the rubble of a destroyed four-story building. Another 37 city residents were injured, 22 of them are currently in hospitals, with doctors assessing the condition of four victims as serious.
As SPJ reported, in Kiev, the church of Saint Sergius of Radonezh was damaged by shelling.
