The head of the Vatican press office, Matteo Bruni, commenting on the statement of the Pope about Ukraine's defeat in the war with Russia, stated that Pope Francis uses the term "white flag" in the context of calling for negotiations, not surrender, ANSA reports.
According to Matteo Bruni, "Pope Francis used the term 'white flag' in response to the metaphor proposed by the interviewer to indicate the cessation of hostilities and the ceasefire achieved through the courage of negotiations." In another part of the interview, speaking about a different conflict situation but referring to any military situation, the Pope clearly stated, "Negotiations are never a surrender."
The representative of the Vatican stated that the Pope prays for everyone and begs for "that shred of humanity that will allow creating conditions for a diplomatic solution in the search for a just and lasting peace."
As the UOJ reported, the Pope called on Ukraine to raise the white flag.
