The Pope says he must meet with Putin before going to Kyiv

In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera, Pope Francis said that before visiting Ukraine, he first wants to meet with Vladimir Putin.

“I sent (to Ukraine – Ed.) Cardinals Michael Czerny and Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, who went there for the fourth time,” said the head of the Roman Catholic Church. However, I feel like I don't have to go. First I have to go to Moscow, I have to meet with Putin.”

According to the pontiff, on the twentieth day of the war, which he compared to the civil conflict in Rwanda in the 90s, he asked the Kremlin for a meeting, but hasn't received an answer so far.

“I'm afraid that Putin cannot and does not want to hold this meeting right now,” the Pope said.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that Pope Francis canceled a meeting with Patriarch Kirill.
