The new president of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, refused to organize the Hanukkah candle lighting ceremony at the presidential palace, which had been taking place since 2006. This was reported by Notes from Poland.

Earlier, during the election campaign, Nawrocki stated that if elected president, he would not continue his predecessor's tradition of celebrating Hanukkah.

«No,» he replied to RMF TV when asked if he would hold the Jewish holiday celebration at the presidential palace. "I take my commitment to Christian values seriously, so I celebrate holidays that are close to me as an individual."

According to the latest census, about 16,000 Jews live in Poland – 0.04% of the population.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the president of Poland opposes the creation of alternatives to traditional marriage.
