On June 7, 2026, representatives of the LGBT community organized the “LvivPride” event in the square in front of the Opera House, staging a symbolic wedding ceremony and calling for significant changes to the Civil Code, according to Suspilne.Lviv.
Participants gathered in the city center carrying signs reading “The Meaning Is Love” and chanted slogans in support of their rights. According to organizers from the Feminist Workshop, this year’s event was held under the slogan “For Real Traditions,” seeking to present LGBT identity as an integral part of Ukrainian history and society.
The central feature of the event was a reenactment described by organizers as the “first Galician lesbian wedding,” conducted in the public square. Activists also put forward a number of political demands, including the withdrawal of a new draft of the Civil Code, legal recognition of same-sex families, and stronger penalties for what they described as hate crimes.
At the same time, a group of Lviv residents gathered nearby to express support for traditional family values. Opponents of the event carried signs reading “I Support the Traditional Family” and “A Traditional Family Means a Strong State,” emphasizing constitutional provisions regarding the family. They also chanted nationalist slogans in protest against the event.
As previously reported by the UOJ, a member of parliament had called on the mayor to cancel the planned pride event in Lviv.
