Loud music of Eurovision fan-zone destroys St. Sophia of Kiev, – mass media
According to Ivan Sidor, a crack has appeared on the inner altar wall of St. Sophia temple, so called Small Sophia.
“Buzz, music and basses going from the fan-zone stage cause the walls to vibrate,” wrote Sidor. “The Eurovision will end but cracks in thousand-old Sophia will remain. One does not need nomad tribes to destroy the biggest Ukrainian sanctity.”
In February 2016 Trapeznaya church of the National Sanctuary of Sophia of Kiev, a world-class unique landmark scheduled in the UNESCO’s list of monuments, was opened for divine worships by the UOC KP. Other confessions and museum staff spoke against this decision.
Deputy Director on restoration and maintenance at the National Sanctuary “Sophia of Kiev” Vadim Kirilenko expressed his opinion that holding mass services in the Small Sophia can be a threat to the life of believers themselves in view of the risk of the collapsing floor.
“The monument building is an on-going exhibition not adjusted for populous worship services. As for the old floor of the main hall, it rests on the basement vault. During the last reconstruction works of 1977-78 the floor constructive was partially left as it used to be. Who can guarantee it will not once collapse killing a number of people?” said Kirilenko in February 2016.
