Archbishop Ieronymos of Greece urges Trump to protect monastery on Sinai

On November 6, 2025, Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece appealed to the President of the USA Donald Trump to assist in protecting the Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinai. This was reported by the Orthodoxia news agency.
The reason for the appeal was the decision of the Court of Appeal of Egypt, which questioned the ownership rights of the Sinai Monastery. Archbishop Ieronymos conveyed his request through the US ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle, during a meeting at the Archdiocese, emphasizing the importance of preserving the monastery as a significant center of Orthodoxy.
The Orthodox Church of Greece stated that the issue of the monastery's status should be resolved only after signing the relevant agreement with the Egyptian government, negotiations for which are ongoing. Archbishop Ieronymos has previously raised this topic repeatedly in official discussions.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the enthronement of the Archbishop of Sinai took place at the Monastery of Saint Catherine.
